Create and maintain inventory items
To create and maintain inventory items, start with inventory access, the intended branch, and verified item, unit, cost, or quantity information. In Admin, search items, create item, edit item, and set units and cost. Verify the item, unit of measure, branch, quantity, and cost before saving any stock change.
Before you start
- Inventory access, the intended branch, and verified item, unit, cost, or quantity information
- Search before creating records and preserve the item unit of measure
Create an inventory item
- Search /inventory/items first to avoid creating a duplicate.
- Open /inventory/items/new, enter verified identity, unit, cost, and reorder values, save once, and reopen the item to confirm persistence.
Edit an inventory item
- Open the exact item at /inventory/items/:id and confirm its branch, identity, and current unit.
- Change only intended fields, save once, and verify the stored values before another stock transaction uses them.
Expected result
A successful save returns an item with the intended identity, unit, cost, branch, and reorder values. Validation failures leave the form available for correction, and reopening the item shows the persisted values before it is used in stock workflows.
Permissions
- Item list accepts inventory.read or inventory-v1.read; create requires inventory.write or inventory-v1.write; edit accepts the mounted read or write capabilities but mutations still fail closed server-side.
Troubleshooting
The item form will not save.
Correct the displayed required, duplicate, unit, cost, or reorder validation and submit once. Keep the form open; do not create another item while the first result is unknown.
Saved values do not appear after reopening.
Verify that you reopened the same item and branch, then compare unit, cost, and reorder values. Stop stock work that depends on the disputed value and send Support the item reference, branch, field, old value, and intended value.
