# Run sales, VAT, expense, and exception reports

To run sales, VAT, expense, and exception reports, start with recorded source data, a reporting period, and the intended branch. In Admin, run Z report, review sales by hour, review VAT return, and review expense summary. Confirm the branch, period, filters, and source completeness before exporting or acting on a result.

## Before you start

- Recorded source data, a reporting period, and the intended branch
- Filters define the result; recheck dates and branch before exporting or acting

## Z report

1. Open /reports/z-report and select the branch, business date, and shift offered by the report.
2. Reconcile totals with the matching sales and payment records before printing or exporting.

## Sales by hour

1. Open /reports/sales-by-hour and set the branch and date range.
2. Review hourly rows for the same scope and compare any anomaly with its underlying orders.

## VAT return

1. Open /reports/vat-return and choose the tax period and branch scope.
2. Compare output, input, and net VAT with the source tax records before export.

## Expense report

1. Open /reports/expenses and set its period, branch, category, and status filters.
2. Review detail rows against saved expenses before relying on the summary.

## Exceptions by employee

1. Open /reports/exceptions-by-employee and set the employee, branch, event, and period filters offered by the page.
2. Open the matching event evidence before contacting the employee or changing access.

## Expected result

The selected operational report shows the requested sales, tax, expense, or employee-exception result for its displayed filters. Switching report routes starts a separate scope, and the exported output matches the report visible immediately before export.

## Permissions

- Z, hourly sales, VAT, and employee-exception reports require reports.read; the Expenses report requires both reports.read and expenses.read.

## Troubleshooting

### An operational report returns no rows.

Confirm you opened the intended Z, hourly sales, VAT, expense, or employee-exception route and apply that page’s filters. Compare with a known source record before treating the empty state as a failure.

### Totals differ between two operational reports.

Do not compare reports with different dates, shifts, statuses, tax treatment, or branch scope. Align the displayed filters, refresh each once, and escalate both routes and totals if the same source population still differs.
