# Manage products, categories, and choices

To manage products, categories, and choices, start with catalog access plus verified prices, taxes, ingredients, yields, categories, and preparation rules. In Admin, search products, create product, edit product, and manage categories. Check prices, tax, variants, modifiers, recipe units, and yields before publishing changes that affect selling or stock consumption.

## Before you start

- Catalog access plus verified prices, taxes, ingredients, yields, categories, and preparation rules
- A recipe must use valid inventory items and units before production can consume stock correctly

## Create or edit a product

1. Search /catalog/products before creating, or open the exact product at /catalog/:id.
2. Enter the required price, tax, branch, selling, and kitchen fields shown, save once, and verify the stored product.

## Manage categories

1. Open /catalog/categories and search the existing list.
2. Create or edit the category, save it, then assign the saved category from the product workflow.

## Manage modifier groups and options

1. Open /catalog/modifiers and review existing groups before creating another.
2. Save the required and optional choices, then reopen the product, assign the group, and verify the resulting configuration.

## Expected result

Saved categories and modifier groups become available to the intended product, and the product reopens with its persisted price, tax, branch, selling, and kitchen settings. A validation error does not create a partial catalog record.

## Permissions

- Product list and modifiers accept catalog.read or products.read; create/edit accept catalog.write or products.write; categories require products.read and writes enforce stronger backend access.

## Troubleshooting

### A product cannot use the expected category or modifier.

Save the category, modifier group, and options first, then reopen the exact product and branch. Confirm the choices are active and permitted before assigning them.

### The catalog form fails or reopens with different values.

Correct the named price, tax, required-field, or duplicate validation and save once. Stop if product identity or branch is uncertain; report the product reference and affected fields without changing other catalog records.
