# Configure tables and service layout

To configure tables and service layout, start with the intended branch plus accurate receipt, table, or kitchen-station configuration. In Admin, list tables, create table, edit table, and arrange service layout. Test the change on the intended terminal or station before relying on it during service.

## Before you start

- The intended branch plus accurate receipt, table, or kitchen-station configuration
- Save Admin configuration first, then verify the affected POS or KDS device in its own environment

## Steps

1. Open /settings/tables, confirm the branch, and review the current service layout before creating a table.
2. Choose create or edit, enter the table identity and displayed service fields, then place it in the intended layout or area.
3. Save once and verify the table appears in the correct active layout.
4. Deactivate only the selected table after confirming it is no longer needed for active service; verify the result in POS separately.

## Expected result

The branch table list and service layout show the created or edited table with its saved identity and active state. Deactivation returns an explicit result; POS verification separately confirms how the table appears during service.

## Permissions

- Tables Settings requires settings.read; table mutations keep their operation-specific authorization and selected branch scope.

## Troubleshooting

### A table cannot be created, edited, or arranged.

Confirm the branch and correct the displayed identity, duplicate, area, or layout validation. Save once and reopen the table list before creating another entry.

### Deactivation or POS visibility is unclear.

Check the exact table’s active state and current service use before retrying. Verify POS separately; report the table reference, branch, Admin status, and POS observation without active order customer data.
